Snow & Stormy Weather

Stormy Weather Conditions and HSA’s Game Cancellation Policies

Because weather predictions are uncertain and conditions often vary locally, the Highline Soccer Association (HSA), seldom cancels games based solely on weather forecasts. If there is a severe weather advisory, however, we may cancel games for travel safety reasons.

Please consider the following points about inclement weather and playing soccer games within the Highline Soccer Association (HSA).

  • Soccer is played in inclement weather. Games are rarely canceled due solely to heavy rain.
  • The referee at the field makes the final determination concerning play. If the referee feels the conditions are not safe, they have the authority to abandon the match before or during play.
  • HSA follows the lead of our field providers.  If these agencies close fields because of weather or safety issues, then we will cancel all games scheduled on those fields.

Note:  grass fields are sometimes closed because heavy rainfall makes the fields vulnerable to damage.

  • Synthetic fields generally have better drainage than grass fields and are less susceptible to damage. Typically these venues will remain open unless they accumulate snow or have large pools of standing water on their surface.

Ultimately, coaches and parents should use their best judgment. If they feel unsafe or threatened because of weather or driving conditions, they should remain at home.

Your club (WSSC, HSC, HSA Select, and HPFC) will notify its membership about any game cancellations or field closures. If you have questions or comments, please contact your HSA board at [email protected]
