Keeper training video

A Terrible Wonderful Position

HIghline Premier FC offers weekly goalie training for HSA Select and Premier players from ages U10 to U18. Age appropriate goalkeeping techniques and strategies are taught during the sessions. Seattle Reign goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer joins a session to help with training and share insights on the skills young keepers need.

2017 HSA Select Jamboree

HSA Select Soccer Jamboree, June 29, 2017

The jamboree, held at Hiawatha field, brought together all 10 HSA Select teams and families. We hosted "mix-and-match games" combining boys and girls of different age groups for fun, 25-minute 4v4 games (or 5v5, depending on number of players attending). B04 coach David Unruh also set up some skills competitions (dribbling, shooting, fastest shot).

The HSA Select program provided pizza and families brought drinks and sides. The weather was great and we hope to make this an annual event.

HSA Select Program History and Overview

The Highline Soccer Association (HSA) has known for several years that there is a gap between our recreational programs (WSSC and HSC) and our premier program (Highline Premier FC) with regards to competitive level, time commitment and cost. After talking with many of our coaches to understand how to fill that gap, we announced a new Community Select program in the fall of 2015 to provide our youth players the opportunity to stay within our association and to play at a higher level.

More about HSA Select

HSA Select is designed to provide an opportunity for players to experience a more competitive level than recreational soccer. Select players are coached in technique and tactics to take the level upward and away from the recreational level, and repeated performance efforts are emphasized. Select leagues within Washington typically emphasize (as much as possible) localized play with a lower overall travel requirement (than premier soccer), and like-versus-like competition.

Select level players are often involved with other sports which can share priority over soccer. Select soccer still offers the player an avenue to play competitively but does not require the amount of training, games, tournaments, and travel, and cost as the most advanced levels of play.

The select player typically receives more advanced technical and tactical coaching instruction than a recreational player. Competition is encouraged and players will go through a tryout process to make a team. Teams are selected by the head coach and other evaluators. All Select coaches have access to Washington Youth Soccer coaching resources, development, and licenses.

While typically Select coaches are volunteers, they are often more experienced than recreational coaches. The HSA Select Program requires their select coaches to hold at a minimum, a Washington Youth Soccer (WYS) "E" License (or equivalent) and encourages their coaches to pursue the USSF "D" License (or equivalent). Learn more about WYS Coaching Education.

Top performing Select players from a season often opt to try out for Premier teams if it aligns with the individual player's goals and family preference, and each season numerous Premier players make the choice to move to select teams for the exact same reasons. HSA Select - 2016 Season

For the second year of the program, we expanded the number of teams from two (fall 2015) to six teams (fall 2016), and we have secured quality coaches for each level. There was a big change mandated by US Soccer to form and play teams by birth year instead of academic year (refer to message from Washington Youth Soccer for more information). That means our teams were formed by the year players were born.
